Educators
Toyota and Discovery Education have teamed up to create Toyota Teen Driver, a comprehensive program designed to help you talk to your students about how to avoid distractions and stay safe behind the wheel.
Teens often see themselves as invincible — nothing can happen to them — and behind the wheel is no exception. In spite of the high rate of teen auto crashes, it's not uncommon for them to think, "It won't happen to me." This overconfidence is due to a number of factors often common among teens, including increased risk-taking behaviors, peer pressure and emotions.
The goal is to open a dialogue with your students that encourages them to make good decisions whenever they are in the driver's seat. Even if your students are just passengers in the car of a teen driver, it's important for them to be aware of their surroundings and their safety. As an educator, you have the ability to make a difference. You're in a unique position — a respected adult who is NOT their parent. In your role, you can help your students become more informed about the dangers of distracted driving, empower them to drive safely and enable them to spread the word and encourage their friends to do the same.
Through these lesson plans and activities you will have the opportunity to challenge your students' attitudes about driving. You will find useful tools including lesson plans, quizzes, and take–home activities to give your students.
